My name is Victoria Alex. I’m a nineteen year old fourth year medical student that loves literature, music and movies. I’m a Christian, friendly but a little reserved and very open-minded
Spring semester 2018
-I had credits and some distinctions in all of my subjects. -It was a very eventful semester full of practicals and excursions. I got a deeper understanding of the country’s health system. I also witnessed an autopsy for the very first time. It all helped to deepen my love for medicine and push me forward in motivation
Fall semester 2018
-I was able to get distinctions in two of the subjects (laboratory medicine and pharmacology). This is something that has only happened once before in the history of the Gambian medical school. -I got credits in the other two subjects (Medicine 1 and Pediatrics 1)
Spring semester 2019
I joined my school student executive body which is called the University of The Gambia Student Association. It allowed me to gain leadership skills and granted me the opportunity to go on an exchange program where I got to experience the health system of other countries and see how medicine is taught in the UK. I was able to balance this new responsibility with my classes and studies. Also, I was able to get credits in all my subjects so far.
Fall semester 2019
ACHIEVEMENTS I have manged to get credits and distinctions in the courses done throughout this year. CHALLENGES Transportation to and fro school can be challenging at times. The lack of a hostel for the medical school makes having proper practical sessions difficult.
Spring semester 2020
At the beginning of the year, we had block postings in Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. We had exams for Obstetrics and Gynaecology but we are yet to receive our results.
